The Super Bowl is the most watched sporting event in American television history. This year's Super Bowl brought together two amazing teams. The Indianapolis Colts with quarterback Payton Manning were thought to be the best team in the NFL this year. Manning and the Colts started off the season going 14-0 and finished with a regular season record of 14 -2. The one team that surprised everyone this year was the New Orleans Saints. The Saints were lead by their quarterback Drew Brees, who was a big role player and leader for the Saints successful season. Brees and the Saints also started off the season strong going 13-0 and finished the season with a 13-3 record.
Both teams were number one seeds going into the playoffs. Brees and the Saints routed the Arizona Cardinals 45-3 in the divisional playoff game at the Superdome. Manning and the Colt also had an impressive win against the Baltimore Ravens to reach the AFC championship game.
Brees and the Saints would play Bret Favre and the Minnesota Viking in the NFC Championship game. The game went into overtime as the Saints beat the Viking with an interception and then a field goal by the Saints kicker Garret Hartley to seal the Saints first NFC Championship and first Super Bowl appearance in franchise history. The Colts would beat the New York Jets 31-17 in another impressive win and a second AFC Championship and visit to the Super Bowl in four years.
This year's Super Bowl was located in South Florida and held at Sun Life Stadium. The Super Bowl was expected to be a real good one with both teams being number the one seeds from each conference. This is the first time since the Buffalo Bills and Dallas Cowboys, who were both number one seeds going into Super Bowl XXVIII (28).
The Colts were a six point favorite to win the Super Bowl. But millions of Saints fans or also known as the "who dats" had faith and that this was the year for the Saints. The Super Bowl started off with Brees and the Saints receiving the opening kickoff. The Saints then failed to get a first down and the Colts took over after the Saints punt. The Colts first drive was a touchdown. The Colts looked pretty promising in the beginning in of the game.
