USF Cafeteria Seeing Improvements

Improvement in the cafeteria has been long awaited by the students of St. Francis. Complaints have been raised and heard by the most recent General Manage Matt Mueller. And over the past semester Sodexho has made quite an effort to improve service. Last academic year 84% of meals served were from student meal plans, this past semester (Fall 2009) 91% of meals were consumed by student meal plans, that's a huge increase. Four thousand more meals were consumed in fall 2009 compared to fall 2008, so Sodexho is obviously heading in the right direction.
A food committee, chaired by Caitlin O'Dowd, has been meeting once a month to help Sodexho improve its services to students. Each complaint or suggestion Mueller receives from the food committees is taken care of and looked into by the next meeting. Matt suggests that if you have suggestions or complaints to talk to him, Damon Sloan, Larry Burich, or the food committee. Mueller is dedicated to the students. When this interview was conducted, I asked if the students of St. Francis would ever again see a waffle maker. Mueller said that after the interview, he would go to storage and look to see if we had the old one. Talk about responsiveness.
In addition to bringing complaints and suggestions to Sodexho, recipes are also welcome. Want something mom makes at home at St. Francis? Type "dining" into the search bar on the USF homepage. Scroll down to dining services and navigate yourself to the St. Francis Sodexho website. At the top of the screen you'll see a tab "Favs From Home" there, you can submit a recipe.
Improvements to dining services have been numerous. Many students enjoy the decanters that serve flavored water and Crystal Light. A wider variety of whole fruits have been added, such as pears and seasonal fruits. A vegetarian option, per student request, has been added to the lunch and dinner menus. As well as an assortment of breads for the soup bar. Monday, February 15, gave us the first "Taste of USF" where students had the opportunity experience some of what TGI Fridays serves its customers in every chain restaurant. An ice cream bar has also been added, every other Wednesday, and ice cream novelties every alternating Wednesday.
Dining experiences to look forward to; Wing night, where an assortment of different flavored wings will be served. A Burger bar is also in the works; buns, meat patties and various other various toppings will be available. Sodexho is also looking to bring back steak night sometime this semester. And probably the most exciting addition to the breakfast menu will be the breakfast sandwich. To get a breakfast sandwich, you'll toast your bread of choice then bring it up to the serving line and a member of the cooking staff will finish making it for you.
