Every year at this time, movie lovers across the country set their eyes on Hollywood, California. The Golden Globes aired Sunday, January 16th on NBC.

James Cameron's "Avatar" took home the two top awards of the night for Best Motion Picture-Drama and Best Director. "Avatar" has only been in theaters since December and has already grossed over 1 billion dollars worldwide, putting it in second place behind 1997's "Titanic," which coincidentally was also directed by Cameron.

In the category for Best Actress in a Motion Picture -Comedy, Meryl Streep took home the award for her performance as Julia Child, in "Julia & Julia." This was Streep's seventh Golden Globe win amongst 23 nominations. The seventh win put her in first place as the actor with the most Golden Globes ahead of Jack Nicholson. In her acceptance speech, Streep joked, "I want to change my name to T-Bone. T-Bone Streep." She was referring T-Bone Burnett's win for best original song for the film, "Crazy Heart."

"Crazy Heart" not only took home the award for Best Original Song, but Jeff Bridges took home the award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture-Drama for his role as Bad Blake, a 57 year old alcoholic singer-songwriter who was once a star of country music.

Probably the least surprising win of the night went to Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture-Drama. Monique won the title for her role as the abusive mother in the film, "Precious: Based on the novel Push by Sapphire." In her acceptance speech, Monique said, " I am in the midst of my dream."

With her performance as Leigh Anne Tuohoy in the sports drama, "The Blind Side," Sandra Bullock took home the award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture-Drama. Bullock was a double nominee, also nominated for her role in, "The Proposal." Bullock was previously nominated for her roles in 2000's, "Miss Congeniality" and 1995's, "While You Were Sleeping."
